# How do I calculate emissions from a hotel's airport or guest shuttle?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/hotel-guest-shuttle-emissions-scope-1

If the hotel owns or leases the shuttle and employs the driver, its diesel is Scope 1 at 2.68 kg CO2 per litre. A shuttle supplied with driver by a travel vendor is Scope 3. Divide fuel by transfers to report per guest trip.

## Which scope

- Hotel-owned vehicles and drivers: Scope 1.
- Vendor vehicles with drivers, paid by the hotel: Scope 3, Category 1.
- Taxis booked and paid by guests: outside the hotel's inventory.

## Data to keep

Fuel invoices or fuel cards per vehicle, and the transfer log with trips and passengers.

## Per transfer

Report per transfer, or per passenger if the log records them, and keep it apart from the room footprint.

## Worked example: two hotel shuttles (one month, illustrative inputs)

- Diesel: 900 litres x 2.68 = 2,412 kg CO2
- Guest transfers: 1,500
- Per transfer: 2,412 / 1,500 = 1.608 kg CO2

Litres and transfers are illustrative.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible reads fuel invoices and fuel card statements (diesel 2.68 and CNG 2.69 kg CO2, IPCC 2006 defaults) into a fingerprinted Scope 1 record. Hired transport goes to the Scope 3 evidence trail, and distance or tonne-km estimates are labelled as estimates.
