# How should an MSME choose and hire an energy auditor?

Start from BEE's lists: certified auditors, accredited auditors for regulated work, or ADEETIE-empanelled auditors if you want the scheme. Ask for calibrated instruments, two or three past reports from your sector, and a scope that ends in costed projects, not a generic checklist.

## Pick the right list

- ADEETIE: you need an empanelled auditor for the investment grade audit, and the cost can be reimbursed.
- Designated consumer duties: you need an accredited energy auditor.
- Everything else: a BEE certified energy auditor, ideally with audits in your sector.

## Questions to ask

- Which instruments will you bring, and when were they calibrated by an NABL lab?
- Can you show a past report from my sector, with names removed?
- Will the report give savings in kWh and fuel per unit of output, with cost and payback for each measure?
- Will you come back to measure savings after we implement?

## What to give the auditor

- Twelve months of electricity bills and fuel invoices.
- Monthly production in tonnes or pieces.
- Single line diagram and a list of major motors, compressors, furnaces and boilers.
