# Which cross-industry metrics does IFRS S2 require?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/ifrs-s2-cross-industry-metrics-list

IFRS S2 paragraph 29 requires seven cross-industry metrics: greenhouse gas emissions, assets or activities vulnerable to transition risk, the same for physical risk, those aligned with climate opportunities, capital deployed toward climate, internal carbon prices, and how climate links to executive pay. Every company applying IFRS S2 reports them, whatever its industry.

## The seven metrics

1. Greenhouse gas emissions: absolute gross Scope 1, Scope 2 and Scope 3, in tonnes CO2 equivalent.
2. Transition risk: amount and percentage of assets or business activities vulnerable to climate-related transition risks.
3. Physical risk: amount and percentage of assets or business activities vulnerable to physical risks.
4. Climate opportunities: amount and percentage of assets or business activities aligned with climate-related opportunities.
5. Capital deployment: capital expenditure, financing or investment deployed toward climate risks and opportunities.
6. Internal carbon prices: whether and how you use one in decisions, and the price per tonne.
7. Remuneration: whether climate is factored into executive pay, and the percentage of current-period executive pay linked to it.

## What the emissions metric asks for in detail

- Measure with the GHG Protocol Corporate Standard (2004), unless a regulator or exchange requires another method.
- Split Scope 1 and 2 between the consolidated group and other investees, such as associates and joint ventures.
- Give Scope 2 location-based, plus information on contractual instruments such as green tariffs or certificates.
- List the Scope 3 categories included. Asset managers, banks and insurers add financed emissions under Category 15.
- Explain the measurement approach, inputs and assumptions, and why you chose them.

## First-year reliefs that affect these metrics

In the first annual reporting period, a company need not disclose Scope 3, and may keep using a measurement method other than the GHG Protocol if it used one in the year before. Comparative figures are not needed in the first year. The December 2025 amendments, effective from 1 January 2027, added reliefs on Category 15 financed emissions, the industry classification used to split them, jurisdiction-required measurement methods and global warming potential values.

## Cross-industry metrics versus industry-based metrics

The seven metrics apply to everyone. Industry-based metrics are extra and depend on your business model; IFRS S2 asks you to refer to its industry-based guidance, drawn from SASB, when choosing them. A steel maker, for example, would add sector metrics on top of the seven.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible supplies the Scope 1 and 2 part of the first metric from your fuel invoices and electricity bills, with location-based and market-based Scope 2, and drafts an IFRS S2 output from your uploaded data. Scenario analysis, transition plans and risk exposure figures are written by your company.
