# How does a utensil maker in Jagadhri work out CO2 per kg?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/jagadhri-utensil-unit-melting-furnace-co2

Add fuel for melting and annealing furnaces and electricity for presses and polishing, divided by kg of utensils made. Oil or coal crucible furnaces usually emit more than induction melting. Most utensils are outside CBAM today, but export buyers still ask for a figure per kg.

## Inputs

- Furnace oil, coal or LPG for melting and annealing.
- Electricity for induction furnaces, presses and buffing.
- Metal bought: scrap, ingots or sheets.

## Metal

For cradle-to-gate, add the metal's own footprint. Recycled scrap carries far less than primary metal; keep purchase bills that show which you used.

## Worked example

- Furnace oil: 1,200 L x 2.97 kg = 3.56 t CO2
- Electricity: 8,000 kWh x 0.710 kg = 5.68 t CO2
- Output: 20,000 kg, so about 0.46 kg CO2 per kg before metal

## What Senseible does here

Senseible reads bills, fuel invoices and production records into dated, fingerprinted records, so the figure you send a buyer can be traced to its documents.
