# How does a Jaipur bearing maker count the steel it buys in its footprint?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/jaipur-bearing-maker-steel-scope-3

Put purchased bearing steel, tubes and rings in Scope 3 category 1, at the supplier's figure per tonne or a stated default. Add your own heat treatment fuel and electricity in Scope 1 and 2. Bearings are not CBAM goods, but buyers ask for footprints.

## Steel

- Bar, tube or forged rings bought in, by weight.
- Supplier figure per tonne, or a default with its source.
- Scrap sold from turning reduces nothing in Scope 3 but is worth recording.

## Own plant

- Electricity for turning, grinding and assembly.
- Gas or electricity for heat treatment furnaces.

## Per bearing

Divide by bearings made, weighting by mass if sizes differ.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible reads bills, fuel invoices and production records into dated, fingerprinted records, so the figure you send a buyer can be traced to its documents.
