# Which steel carbon figure should a Jamshedpur ancillary unit use for steel bought from the integrated mill?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/jamshedpur-ancillary-unit-steel-supplier-figure

Use the mill's own product figure for the grade and year you bought, from its product footprint, EPD or CBAM data, and keep the document. Only fall back to a published average if the mill will not share one, and label it. Steel is usually most of an ancillary part's footprint.

## What to ask the mill or stockist

- kg CO2e per tonne for the product: coil, plate, bar or section.
- Year, boundary and route.
- Whether any low carbon claim rests on certificates and how they are tracked.

## Through a stockist

If you buy from a service centre, ask for mill test certificates and the mill's figure. Add cutting and transport separately.

## Then add your own

Your electricity, fuel and process scrap, split by parts made. Process scrap sent back to the mill is reported as waste, not subtracted.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible reads steel, electricity and fuel invoices into a dated, fingerprinted record, so the steel tonnes and supplier figure behind a part trace back to the documents.
