# How do I count emissions from attar distillation in Kannauj?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/kannauj-attar-distillation-fuel-emissions

The copper stills are fired with wood or cow dung for many hours, so fuel is the main source. Report the biogenic CO2 separately and the methane and nitrous oxide in Scope 1. If you switch a still to LPG or electricity, count that fuel or power instead.

## What to measure

- Quintals of wood or dung cake burnt per batch.
- Hours of firing and kilograms of flowers or herbs per batch.
- Litres of base oil, often sandalwood, bought in.

## What a buyer sees

Per kg of attar, the fuel figure is usually small next to the base oil and the transport of flowers. Keep base oil invoices on the Scope 3 trail.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible reads the energy invoices behind the making stage into a fingerprinted Scope 1 and 2 record, and keeps material invoices on the Scope 3 trail. Material factors come from your supplier or a named database and are labelled with their source, so the product figure can be traced line by line.
