# Is lime from a Katni kiln covered by CBAM?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/katni-lime-kiln-covered-by-cbam

No. Quicklime and hydrated lime sit under CN 2522, which is outside CBAM. Your kiln still emits process CO2 from limestone, close to 0.75 tonnes per tonne of high calcium lime by the IPCC default, plus fuel. Steel and chemical buyers will ask for that figure.

## Your footprint

- Process CO2 from calcining limestone.
- Fuel for the kiln: coal, petcoke or gas.
- Electricity for crushing and hydrating.

## Why buyers ask

Steel mills use lime in their converters, and its emissions can enter their CBAM figure as part of the plant. They will want your per tonne number.

## Records

Limestone fed, lime produced, fuel invoices and kWh. A purity test sharpens the process figure.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible reads fuel, electricity and freight invoices into a dated, fingerprinted record per site, so each figure you send a buyer traces back to the documents behind it.
