# Does CBAM matter for a Kenyan cement plant?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/kenya-cement-plant-cbam-relevance

Only for cement or clinker shipped into the EU. Most Kenyan cement goes to East African markets, which CBAM does not touch. If you do export to Europe, the importer needs embedded emissions per tonne, including electricity, since cement counts indirect emissions. Buyers elsewhere may still ask for footprints.

## When it applies

When an EU importer declares your cement or clinker. Exports to Uganda, Tanzania or South Sudan are outside.

## If you export to the EU

- Direct emissions from calcination and kiln fuel.
- Electricity, counted for cement.
- Clinker bought in, as a precursor.

## Worth doing anyway

Lenders and regional buyers increasingly ask for a tonnes per tonne figure. Keeping the kiln and fuel records helps either way.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible reads fuel, electricity and material invoices into dated, fingerprinted installation records, the starting point for the actual figures an EU importer asks for. Senseible does not verify emissions or file CBAM declarations.
