# Which Korean renewable electricity options lower a supplier market based Scope 2?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/korean-supplier-renewable-certificates-scope-2

Korea offers a green premium paid to the utility, renewable energy certificates, third party and direct power purchase agreements and on site solar. Each can lower the market based figure if it meets the GHG Protocol Scope 2 quality criteria. Location based stays at the grid average whatever you buy.

## The options

- Green premium: pay extra on the tariff for renewable attribution.
- RECs bought and retired for your consumption.
- Power purchase agreements, third party or direct.
- Own solar, which cuts kWh bought.

## What buyers check

That the instrument is retired in your name, covers the same year and market, and is not also claimed by someone else. Some buyers weigh contracts for new capacity higher than a premium on existing plants.

## Reporting

Show both totals and list each instrument with its MWh and year.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible reads electricity bills into dated, fingerprinted records and keeps location based and market based figures side by side, each with the factor and year used.
