# What grid emission factor should a supplier in Kosovo use?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/kosovo-grid-emission-factor-for-suppliers

Kosovo's power comes overwhelmingly from two lignite plants, so its grid factor is among the highest in Europe, often above 1 kg CO2 per kWh. Use the official or IEA figure for the reporting year and name it.

## Which figure

- Location based: the national grid average for the reporting year, from the official source or the IEA.
- Market based: a supplier specific figure or residual mix, only if one exists for Kosovo.
- Write down the figure, its source and its year.

## Why it moves

Lignite plants supply most electricity, with small amounts of hydro and wind. Outages at the old units change the mix and imports.

## Records

Monthly electricity bills with kWh, and meter readings for any power you make on site.

## For CBAM

For cement and fertilisers, electricity counts toward the charge, so a lignite grid factor raises the figure noticeably.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible reads electricity bills into dated, fingerprinted records and keeps location based and market based figures side by side, each with the factor and year used.
