# What is the carbon footprint of a laminated car windscreen?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/laminated-windscreen-carbon-footprint

A windscreen is two sheets of float glass bonded with a PVB interlayer. The float glass carries most of the footprint, then bending furnaces and the autoclave that bonds the layers. Ask the glass supplier for kg CO2e per kg, and add your cutting, bending and autoclave energy per piece.

## What to count

- Float glass, by weight.
- PVB interlayer, by weight.
- Bending furnace fuel or electricity.
- Autoclave steam or electricity.

## Per piece

Divide energy by good windscreens; glass broken in processing counts against output.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible reads bills, fuel invoices and production records into dated, fingerprinted records, so the figure you send a buyer can be traced to its documents.
