# What is the carbon footprint of a law firm per lawyer?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/law-firm-carbon-footprint-per-lawyer

Office electricity, mostly air conditioning and IT, is the firm's main Scope 2. Business travel, commuting, paper, IT equipment and cloud services are Scope 3 and often larger. Divide the total by lawyers or by all staff, and name the denominator so the figure compares year to year.

## By scope

- Scope 1: DG diesel, refrigerant top ups.
- Scope 2: office electricity at 0.710 kg CO2 per kWh.
- Scope 3: flights, hotel stays, commuting, paper, laptops, cloud and courier.

## Clients ask

Clients collecting supplier data usually want your Scope 1 and 2 and the share billed to them.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible reads electricity bills (CEA grid factor 0.710 kg CO2 per kWh, CO2 Baseline Database version 21.0) and diesel, LPG and gas invoices (IPCC 2006 defaults) into a dated, fingerprinted Scope 1 and 2 record for each site. Intensity per unit uses the activity count you enter, and estimates are labelled as estimates.
