# Is it worth moving my small factory from an LT to an HT electricity connection?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/lt-to-ht-connection-small-factory-worth-it

Often, once load is large enough. HT energy rates are usually lower, but you must buy and maintain a transformer, and its losses fall on your side of the meter. Emissions per kWh do not change; your Scope 2 counts the units your meter records.

## What to compare

- Energy and demand charges under both tariffs for your monthly load.
- Transformer, switchgear and civil cost, and annual maintenance.
- Transformer no load and load losses, metered on the HT side.

## Emissions view

An efficient transformer cuts the extra units you pay for. Choose a high efficiency rating; the losses run every hour of the year.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible reads electricity bills, including kVAh, demand and solar export lines, into dated records with the units, factor and year behind every Scope 2 figure.
