# What carbon data should a Ludhiana cycle maker get from its steel tube supplier?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/ludhiana-cycle-frame-steel-tube-carbon-data

Ask the tube maker for kg CO2e per tonne of tube, with the steel route behind it, the year and the boundary. Steel tube is usually most of a steel frame's footprint, so a real supplier figure matters more than your own welding and painting, which come from your bills.

## What to ask for

- kg CO2e per tonne of tube at the tube mill's gate.
- The coil or strip supplier and its route: blast furnace, DRI or scrap based.
- The year, and whether it is site specific or an average.

## Your part

Cutting, bending, brazing or welding, phosphating and painting, from your electricity, LPG or PNG bills, split by frames made.

## CBAM note

Steel tubes themselves are CBAM goods if exported to the EU, but bicycles and frames are not, so a frame maker exporting finished cycles buys no certificates.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible reads steel, fuel and electricity invoices into a dated, fingerprinted record, so the tube tonnes and energy behind a frame figure trace back to the documents.
