# How does a Ludhiana hosiery unit work out carbon per garment?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/ludhiana-hosiery-unit-carbon-per-garment

Add electricity and fuel emissions for the month and divide by pieces made, for the making stage. Woollen and acrylic yarn bought in usually carries more and sits in Scope 3; add it from supplier figures per kg, labelled with their source.

## Making stage

Electricity kWh x 0.710 kg CO2 per kWh.

Generator diesel x 2.68 kg CO2 per litre, if used.

Divide by pieces made in the month.

## Yarn

Ask spinners for a figure per kg of yarn. Multiply by yarn weight per garment, including waste.

## Worked example: making stage, one month (illustrative inputs)

- Electricity: 8,000 kWh x 0.710 = 5,680 kg CO2
- Pieces made: 20,000
- Per piece: 5,680 / 20,000 = 0.284 kg CO2

Quantities are illustrative; yarn is not included in this figure.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible reads the energy invoices behind the making stage into a fingerprinted Scope 1 and 2 record, and keeps material invoices on the Scope 3 trail. Material factors come from your supplier or a named database and are labelled with their source, so the product figure can be traced line by line.
