# How does a Meerut scissors maker work out the carbon footprint per pair?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/meerut-scissors-unit-carbon-footprint

Weigh the steel in each pair, often from scrap or sheet, and apply a steel factor, then add electricity for grinding and polishing and any furnace fuel for hardening. Scissors fall under HS chapter 82, which CBAM does not cover, but EU buyers may still ask for a figure.

## Per pair

- Steel weight and whether it is recycled scrap.
- Hardening furnace fuel.
- Grinding and polishing electricity.

## CBAM

CBAM covers iron and steel in chapters 72 and 73, not finished tools in chapter 82. A buyer request is about their own Scope 3.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible turns your fuel, power and material invoices into a dated, sourced activity record, the starting point for a per-unit footprint.
