# Which grid emission factor should a Mexican supplier use?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/mexico-grid-emission-factor-for-suppliers

Use the national electricity system emission factor published each year by Mexico's environment and energy authorities, for the year the power was used, and cite it. Recent figures are a little over 0.4 kg of CO2 per kWh, reflecting a gas heavy grid.

## Which number for which question

- Location based Scope 2: the official national factor for the year.
- Market based Scope 2: clean energy certificates or a supply contract meeting the Scope 2 Quality Criteria.
- CBAM: for cement and fertilisers the electricity factor changes the cost; for steel and aluminium electricity is not charged.

## Keep it auditable

Record the publication, its year and the value. Do not mix years in one report, and update when the new figure is out.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible reads each site's monthly electricity bills into a dated, fingerprinted Scope 2 record. Grid factors outside India are entered from the official source for the country and year, and are labelled with that source.
