# What are the emissions of running a mortuary cold room?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/mortuary-cold-room-electricity-emissions

Refrigeration electricity runs around the clock: compressor kWh times 0.710 kg CO2 per kWh. Refrigerant leaks topped up during servicing are Scope 1, multiplied by the gas's warming potential, and they can rival the electricity.

## Records

- Sub meter for the cold chamber, or compressor rating times hours.
- Service records with refrigerant kg added.
- Backup generator diesel.

## Cutting it

Door seals, insulation and leak checks lower both lines at once.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible reads electricity bills (CEA grid factor 0.710 kg CO2 per kWh, CO2 Baseline Database version 21.0) and diesel, LPG and gas invoices (IPCC 2006 defaults) into a dated, fingerprinted Scope 1 and 2 record for each site. Intensity per unit uses the activity count you enter, and estimates are labelled as estimates.
