# How does PUE change a Navi Mumbai data centre's Scope 2?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/navi-mumbai-data-centre-pue-scope-2-example

Scope 2 follows total facility electricity, not IT load alone. PUE is total facility energy divided by IT energy, so at a PUE of 1.5 every 100 kWh of IT draw means 150 kWh billed, all counted at 0.710 kg CO2 per kWh on the location-based method.

## The relationship

ISO/IEC 30134-2 defines PUE as total facility energy over IT equipment energy. Cooling, power conversion and lighting are the gap between them, and all of it is purchased electricity in Scope 2.

## Two methods

Report location-based at the grid factor and, where the site buys renewable electricity with qualifying evidence, a market-based figure too.

## Worked example: one month (illustrative inputs)

- IT energy: 1,000,000 kWh; total facility energy: 1,500,000 kWh
- PUE: 1,500,000 / 1,000,000 = 1.5
- Scope 2, location-based: 1,500,000 x 0.710 = 1,065,000 kg CO2

Quantities are illustrative; use metered IT and facility energy.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible reads each site's monthly electricity bills into a dated Scope 2 record, keeps renewable purchase documents beside them for market-based reporting, and records diesel for backup generators as Scope 1. Customer shares use the allocation key you enter.
