# We store diesel in our own tank and issue it to DG sets and forklifts. How do we count it?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/own-diesel-tank-issue-register-emissions

Count diesel issued, not just diesel bought, and record who used it. A tank issue register by equipment gives Scope 1 per use and shows whether stock moved. Purchases minus closing stock change should equal issues; diesel given to a contractor's vehicles belongs in their emissions, not yours.

## What the register needs

- Date, equipment, litres issued and who signed.
- Dip readings at month start and end.
- Deliveries with invoice numbers.

## Splitting by use

- DG sets: Scope 1, and do not add their units again as electricity.
- Forklifts and company vehicles: Scope 1.
- Contractor or hired vehicles: Scope 3 for you.

## Factor

About 2.68 kg CO2 per litre for diesel. Biodiesel blends need the fossil share only in Scope 1, with the bio share reported separately.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible reads fuel invoices, gas bills and delivery documents into dated, fingerprinted records, so each tonne of CO2 traces back to the document behind it.
