# How do I calculate the emissions of a passenger ferry trip?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/passenger-ferry-emissions-per-trip

Multiply the litres of diesel burnt per trip by 2.68 kg CO2 per litre, then divide by passengers carried for a per-person figure. Use the fuel log, not the engine rating. A ferry that also carries vehicles should split fuel by deck area or weight before dividing.

## Data you need

- Diesel bought per month from fuel invoices.
- Trips run and passengers carried per month.
- Vehicles carried, if any.

## For staff travel

A company whose staff commute by ferry counts it in Scope 3 Category 7, using the operator's per-passenger figure or a fuel-based estimate.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible reads bills, fuel invoices and production records into dated, fingerprinted records, so the figure you send a buyer can be traced to its documents.
