# What is the carbon footprint of a bottle of perfume?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/perfume-carbon-footprint-per-bottle

The glass bottle, cap and box often weigh more than the liquid and can carry most of the footprint. Ethanol and fragrance oils follow. Blending and filling use little energy. Weigh the packaging and ask suppliers for figures per kg.

## Steps

1. Weigh bottle, pump, cap and box.
2. Multiply each by a supplier or secondary factor per kg.
3. Add ethanol and fragrance oil by volume.
4. Add filling electricity per bottle.

## Ethanol

CO2 from ethanol made from crops and released in use is biogenic and reported separately.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible reads your electricity bills, fuel invoices and purchase invoices into dated, fingerprinted records, so a per unit footprint can be traced back to the documents behind it. Estimates are labelled as estimates.
