# Can a housing society get PM Surya Ghar subsidy for solar on common areas?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/pm-surya-ghar-housing-society-common-areas

Yes. Group housing societies and RWAs get Rs 18,000 per kW, or Rs 19,800 in special category states, for common facilities including EV charging, up to 500 kW at 3 kW per house. Individual residents' own rooftop systems count within that 500 kW limit.

## The rules

- Rate: Rs 18,000 per kW for common facilities, including EV charging.
- Cap: the lower of 3 kW per house and the installed capacity, up to 500 kW in total.
- The upper limit includes individual plants installed by residents in the society.
- The common-facility connection must serve common facilities only, not supply residents.

## MNRE's examples

- 100 kW with 20 houses: subsidy on 60 kW = Rs 10,80,000.
- 100 kW with 50 houses: subsidy on 100 kW = Rs 18,00,000.

## Metering

Group net metering and virtual net metering installations are eligible if the system is on a roof or elevated structure and the discom approves the metering arrangement. That lets a society share solar units across connections where the state allows it.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible reads electricity bills, including net metering lines, so grid import, export and solar generation sit in one monthly record with the factor and source shown. Figures are self-declared.
