# How do loans and subsidy payments work under PM Surya Ghar?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/pm-surya-ghar-loan-and-subsidy-timing

Loans are offered through the national portal, and MNRE expects banks to offer standard low-interest loans around repo plus 0.5% for systems up to 3 kW. The subsidy is processed within 15 days of discom approval and goes first to the loan account, with any balance to your bank account.

## Financing

- Loan products from banks and financial institutions are listed on the national portal, including through the Jan Samarth portal.
- MNRE envisages standard low-interest products around repo plus 50 basis points for residential systems up to 3 kW.
- Similar standard products are expected for systems above 3 kW, which get no extra subsidy.

## Subsidy payment

1. The vendor installs; the discom inspects and approves.
2. The claim is processed within 15 days of discom approval.
3. If you took a loan, the subsidy goes to the loan account up to the amount outstanding, and any remainder to your bank account.

## Keep the records

Keep the commissioning report, net meter agreement and generation readings. They are the evidence for any solar claim later, including on a housing society's or home office's electricity figures.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible reads electricity bills, including net metering lines, so grid import, export and solar generation sit in one monthly record with the factor and source shown. Figures are self-declared.
