# Can we burn poultry litter in our boiler, and how is it counted?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/poultry-litter-as-boiler-fuel-emissions

Poultry litter is a biomass fuel, so its CO2 is biogenic and reported separately, while methane and nitrous oxide from burning stay in Scope 1. Its high moisture and ash lower useful heat per tonne, so weigh and test it before comparing with coal.

## Before switching

- Moisture and ash content tests.
- Boiler grate suited to high-ash fuel.
- State pollution board consent for the new fuel.

## Records

Tonnes received per month and a supplier note on its source, so a verifier accepts it as biomass.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible reads bills, fuel invoices and production records into dated, fingerprinted records, so the figure you send a buyer can be traced to its documents.
