# Does hydro power lower the CBAM figure for aluminium from Puerto Madryn?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/puerto-madryn-aluminium-hydro-cbam

Not the charge. For aluminium only direct emissions count toward CBAM: anode CO2, perfluorocarbons and cast house fuel. Hydro and wind power lower the reported indirect emissions and the Scope 3 footprint buyers see, which matters for low carbon contracts.

## What the charge covers

- Anode carbon in the pots.
- CF4 and C2F6 from anode effects.
- Casting furnace fuel.

## Where power helps

Buyers comparing footprints count power. A smelter on hydro and wind can show a much lower cradle to gate figure than one on coal.

## Mixed supply

If part of the power comes from gas, ask for the share by year so the claim matches the supply.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible keeps each site's fuel, power and production records together, so the embedded emissions you send an EU importer trace back to dated documents.
