# What is the carbon footprint of a PUF sandwich panel?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/puf-sandwich-panel-carbon-footprint

Most of it comes from the steel skins and the polyurethane foam, made from MDI and polyol. The blowing agent matters too: HFC blowing agents are strong greenhouse gases, while hydrocarbons such as cyclopentane are not. Ask suppliers for each, then add your press and curing energy per square metre.

## What to include

- Coated steel or aluminium skins, by weight.
- Polyol and MDI, by weight.
- Blowing agent type and quantity, including any released during foaming.
- Press, heating and curing energy.

## Why the blowing agent matters

HFC releases during foaming count in your Scope 1. Ask buyers whether they want the agent named in the declaration.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible reads bills, fuel invoices and production records into dated, fingerprinted records, so the figure you send a buyer can be traced to its documents.
