# How does a puffed rice unit work out emissions from its roasting fuel?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/puffed-rice-unit-fuel-emissions

Measure the fuel for roasting, often rice husk, firewood or LPG, over a week and divide by kilograms of puffed rice. Husk and firewood CO2 is biogenic and reported separately; LPG CO2 counts fully at 2.98 kg per kg. Add parboiling steam and electricity.

## Records for a week

- Husk or firewood in kilograms, or LPG cylinders.
- Paddy or rice in and puffed rice out.
- Electricity for conveyors and packing.

## Per kg

A week of careful weighing is enough to set a per-kg figure you can reuse until the process changes.

## LPG roaster

- LPG 190 kg x 2.98 = 566 kg CO2 for 7,000 kg output
- 0.081 kg CO2 per kg from roasting
