# What grid emission factor should a supplier in Qatar use?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/qatar-grid-emission-factor-for-suppliers

Qatar runs its grid almost entirely on natural gas, with a growing share of solar, so the location based factor sits close to half a kilogram of CO2 per kWh. Use the official or IEA figure for the reporting year, state source and year, and report contracted solar separately under the market based method.

## Location based

The national average for the year of the bills. Large solar plants added in recent years lower it gradually.

## Market based

Only contractual instruments that meet the Scope 2 quality criteria change this figure. Without them it equals the grid average.

## What to send a buyer

- Monthly kWh from bills.
- Both totals, labelled, with factor source and year.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible reads electricity bills into dated, fingerprinted records and keeps location based and market based figures side by side, each with the factor and year used.
