# What is the carbon footprint of a quick commerce dark store per order?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/quick-commerce-dark-store-emissions-per-order

Cold rooms and freezers usually dominate a dark store's electricity, then lighting and cooling. Divide monthly electricity at 0.710 kg CO2 per kWh, plus refrigerant leaks, by orders packed. Rider trips are a separate figure, Scope 1 or 3 depending on who runs the fleet.

## Store figure

- Electricity per month from the bill.
- Refrigerant refills times their GWP.
- Generator diesel during outages.

## Delivery figure

Keep rider fuel or charging separate so the store and delivery numbers can each be improved.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible reads electricity bills (CEA grid factor 0.710 kg CO2 per kWh, CO2 Baseline Database version 21.0) and diesel, LPG and gas invoices (IPCC 2006 defaults) into a dated, fingerprinted Scope 1 and 2 record for each site. Intensity per unit uses the activity count you enter, and estimates are labelled as estimates.
