# How does a Rayagada paper mill separate coal boiler CO2 from biogenic CO2?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/rayagada-paper-mill-coal-boiler-co2

Count coal and any oil in full in Scope 1. Report CO2 from black liquor, bark and other wood residues as biogenic, outside the Scope 1 total, with their methane and N2O inside it. Add bought electricity at 0.710. Divide by tonnes of paper.

## Fossil

- Coal for power boilers, by weight and GCV.
- Fuel oil for lime kilns.
- Purchased electricity.

## Biogenic

- Black liquor in the recovery boiler.
- Bark, chips and sludge burnt for steam.
- Lime kiln CO2 from recovered lime mud.

## Per tonne

Divide by tonnes of saleable paper and show fossil and biogenic separately for buyers.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible reads fuel, electricity and production documents into dated, fingerprinted plant records, so the monthly intensity behind a figure can be traced to its source.
