# What share of India's grid electricity came from renewables in FY 2025-26?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/renewable-share-of-india-grid-generation

About 17.6% of net generation. CEA's database version 22.0 counts 310.58 BU of renewable generation out of 1,761.28 BU total net generation in FY 2025-26. Renewables were about 41.9% of installed capacity on 31 March 2026, so their share of energy is much lower than their share of capacity.

## The figures

- Renewable net generation: 310.58 BU, up from 255.01 BU in FY 2024-25
- Total net generation including renewables, imports and captive: 1,761.28 BU
- Renewable installed capacity: 223,273.43 MW of 532,739.72 MW on 31 March 2026

## Why energy share trails capacity share

Solar and wind run fewer hours a year than coal. A megawatt of solar produces far fewer units than a megawatt of coal, so capacity share overstates what renewables supply.

## What it means for your factor

The grid average fell to 0.675 t CO2 per MWh because renewables grew faster than demand. To go below the grid average in your own reporting, buy renewable power through open access, a green tariff or certificates and report market-based Scope 2.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible reads electricity bills into dated kWh records per meter and site, so whichever CEA factor and version you apply, each Scope 2 figure traces back to the bill and the factor behind it.
