# Our Saltillo foundry casts engine and chassis parts. How do we give the carmaker a carbon figure?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/saltillo-auto-casting-supplier-carbon-data

Add melting energy, whether electricity for induction furnaces or gas, plus coke if you run a cupola, then add metal bought in: scrap at near zero, pig iron and alloys at supplier figures. Divide by good castings, not metal melted.

## Melting

- Induction furnace electricity, at the Mexican grid factor.
- Gas for aluminium melting and holding.
- Coke for cupolas.

## Metal inputs

- Purchased scrap, returns and pig iron.
- Alloys and inoculants.
- Sand binders, if the buyer asks for a full footprint.

## Yield

Runners, risers and rejects are remelted, so divide by good castings shipped and state the yield.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible reads bills, fuel invoices and production records into dated, fingerprinted records, so the figure you send a buyer can be traced to its documents.
