# What is the carbon footprint of a school bag?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/school-bag-carbon-footprint-per-bag

Most of it comes from the fabric, usually polyester or nylon, plus foam padding, zips and buckles. Weigh each material per bag, apply supplier or secondary factors per kg, and add cutting and stitching electricity. Fabric cut away as waste still counts in the fabric bought.

## Materials

- Outer fabric and lining.
- Foam and padding.
- Zips, buckles and webbing.
- Packaging.

## Factory

Divide monthly electricity by bags made. Count fabric bought, including offcuts.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible reads your electricity bills, fuel invoices and purchase invoices into dated, fingerprinted records, so a per unit footprint can be traced back to the documents behind it. Estimates are labelled as estimates.
