# What is Scope 3 category 10, processing of sold products, and does my company need it?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/scope-3-category-10-processing-of-sold-products

Category 10 covers emissions when customers process an intermediate product you sold, such as steel coil stamped into parts or yarn woven into fabric. It applies only to intermediate products. If you cannot know how customers use it, you may exclude it with a stated reason.

## How to estimate

1. Tonnes sold by product type.
2. Typical energy per tonne for the customer's processing step.
3. Multiply and apply the relevant fuel or grid factor.

## When to exclude

The Scope 3 Standard allows excluding category 10 when uses are many and unknowable. Say so in the report and explain why.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible turns supplier invoices into a Scope 3 record with the supplier, quantity and factor behind every figure, so you can see which data is still missing.
