# An electric arc furnace mill asks our scrap yard for carbon data. What should we give?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/scrap-dealer-asked-for-carbon-data-by-eaf-mill

Under CBAM, scrap enters a steel figure at zero embedded emissions, so the mill mainly needs proof of what is scrap. For footprints, give your own emissions per tonne handled: diesel for cranes and trucks, electricity for shears and balers, and transport to the mill.

## For CBAM

Scrap counts at zero, so records that show material is genuine scrap, by grade and source, matter more than a carbon figure.

## For footprints

- Diesel for cranes, loaders and trucks.
- Electricity for shears, balers and shredders.
- Transport to the mill, per tonne.

## Per tonne

Divide by tonnes sold; the figure is usually small next to steelmaking.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible reads bills, fuel invoices and production records into dated, fingerprinted records, so the figure you send a buyer can be traced to its documents.
