# Our factory runs only part of the year. How do we show emissions intensity fairly?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/seasonal-factory-emissions-intensity

Report the full year's emissions, including the idle months, then divide by the year's output. Idle months carry base load such as lighting, security and maintenance, which is real. Showing season months only flatters the figure and a verifier will spot it.

## Show both

- Annual total and annual intensity per tonne.
- Intensity for season months, clearly labelled.
- Off-season base load as its own line.

## Cut idle load

Switching off idle transformers, compressors and lighting in the off-season cuts emissions that produce nothing.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible reads bills, fuel invoices and production records into dated, fingerprinted records, so the figure you send a buyer can be traced to its documents.
