# We pass some of our grid electricity to a neighbouring unit. Is that still our Scope 2?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/selling-electricity-to-a-neighbour-scope-2

No. Scope 2 covers electricity you consume. Units sub-metered and billed to a neighbour or tenant are theirs to report. Keep the sub-meter readings and the recharge invoices, and subtract only what is metered, never an estimate.

## What you need

- A sub-meter on the neighbour's supply.
- Monthly readings and the recharge bill you raise.
- A note in your inventory showing the subtraction.

## If you generate the power

Power from your own genset or captive plant is different: all fuel burned stays in your Scope 1, and you report the exported share separately.

## The subtraction

- Main bill: 60,000 kWh; neighbour sub-meter: 8,000 kWh
- Your Scope 2: 52,000 kWh x 0.710 kg = 36,920 kg CO2

## What Senseible does here

Senseible keeps each figure tied to its invoice, factor and method version, so a verifier can trace any number back to the document it came from.
