# What are the emissions from shot blasting castings?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/shot-blasting-energy-emissions-per-tonne

Shot blasting uses electricity for the blast wheels, dust collector and, in air blasting, a large compressor. Multiply the machine's kWh by 0.710 kg CO2 and divide by tonnes cleaned. Worn shot is bought steel, in Scope 3.

## Measure

- kWh from a sub-meter on the blaster.
- Tonnes of castings cleaned.
- Kilograms of steel shot bought.

## Cut it

Run full loads, fix compressed air leaks on air blasters, and stop the dust collector between batches.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible reads the plant's electricity bills (CEA grid factor 0.710 kg CO2 per kWh, CO2 Baseline Database version 21.0) and fuel invoices (IPCC 2006 defaults) into a fingerprinted Scope 1 and 2 record, the plant-level input to a per-unit figure. Bought-in materials go to the supplier evidence trail; product reports are self-declared drafts.
