# Does FSC paper let a Sivakasi carton printer claim lower carbon?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/sivakasi-carton-printer-fsc-vs-carbon-claim

No. FSC certifies where the wood fibre came from and how the forest is managed. It does not state a carbon figure, so a carbon claim still needs the board's emissions per tonne from the mill and your own press energy.

## What you can say

That the board is FSC certified, with the certificate number.

A carbon figure only if you calculated it from the mill's data and your own energy.

## What a buyer checks

Whether the carbon figure names its source and period. A certificate logo alone does not answer that.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible reads the energy invoices behind the making stage into a fingerprinted Scope 1 and 2 record, and keeps material invoices on the Scope 3 trail. Material factors come from your supplier or a named database and are labelled with their source, so the product figure can be traced line by line.
