# How do we count a solar carport at our factory?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/solar-carport-at-factory-scope-2

Like rooftop solar: power you make and use on site never appears on the grid bill, so Scope 2 falls with no certificate needed. Read generation from the inverter to show the saving. Building the carport is Scope 3 Category 2 in the year you buy it.

## Show the saving

- Monthly generation from the inverter or meter.
- Times 0.710 gives grid CO2 avoided.
- Exported units under net metering follow the discom's rules.

## EV charging

If the carport feeds EV chargers, that use is on-site solar too. Keep charger logs.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible reads electricity bills (CEA grid factor 0.710 kg CO2 per kWh, CO2 Baseline Database version 21.0) and diesel, LPG and gas invoices (IPCC 2006 defaults) into a dated, fingerprinted Scope 1 and 2 record for each site. Intensity per unit uses the activity count you enter, and estimates are labelled as estimates.
