# My rooftop solar output drops every year. How does that affect my Scope 2 claim?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/solar-panel-degradation-and-scope-2-claim

Claim only what the plant actually generates, read from the generation meter or inverter export, never the nameplate estimate. As panels age they produce less, so more power comes from the grid and your Scope 2 rises slightly. Your records then show the real trend.

## What to read

- Monthly generation from the solar meter or inverter.
- Grid import and export from the net or gross meter.
- Not the EPC contractor's projected yield.

## Why it shows

Lower generation means more grid units at the grid factor. Cleaning and inverter faults show up the same way, so a monthly check catches them.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible reads quantities, dates and units from your bills and invoices and shows the factor and source used on every line.
