# We use rooftop solar and grid power. What electricity factor do we give a buyer?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/solar-plus-grid-electricity-factor-for-buyer

Give the buyer your actual Scope 2: grid units bought times 0.710 kg CO2 per kWh. Solar you generate and use yourself has no grid emissions, so it lowers the total. Dividing by all units used gives a blended factor, but report kWh from each source too.

## Show the split

- Grid kWh from bills.
- Solar kWh from the inverter or generation meter.
- Exported units, if net metered, kept separate.

## Watch net metering

If you export solar and import grid power at other times, count the grid units you imported, not the net figure on the bill, unless your method says otherwise.

## Keep proof

Inverter reports and net meter readings for the year.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible reads bills, fuel invoices and production records into dated, fingerprinted records, so the figure you send a buyer can be traced to its documents.
