# What is the carbon footprint of a spark plug, and is it covered by CBAM?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/spark-plug-carbon-footprint-per-piece

A spark plug has a steel shell, a fired alumina ceramic insulator, a nickel alloy electrode and sometimes a precious metal tip. The ceramic firing and the metals carry most of the footprint. Spark plugs fall under CN 8511, which is not on the CBAM list.

## What to include

- Steel shell, nickel alloy and any iridium or platinum tip.
- Alumina powder and the kiln fuel to fire insulators.
- Machining, plating and assembly electricity.

## For EU buyers

No CBAM declaration is needed for CN 8511 goods, but car makers still ask for a product footprint.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible reads bills, fuel invoices and production records into dated, fingerprinted records, so the figure you send a buyer can be traced to its documents.
