# What is the carbon footprint of the stretch film on a pallet?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/stretch-wrap-film-emissions-per-pallet

Weigh the film on a typical wrapped pallet, then multiply by a factor for LLDPE film from your supplier or a named database. Pre-stretched film and better wrapping machines use less film per pallet, which is the easiest cut.

## How to calculate

1. Grams of film per pallet, weighed.
2. Times pallets wrapped in the year.
3. Times the film factor, labelled with its source.

## Which scope

Film you buy is Category 1. Film on pallets you ship to customers also ends up in their waste, Category 12.

## Illustrative only

- Film: 250 g per pallet x 20,000 pallets = 5 t
- Factor: 2 kg CO2e per kg (illustrative)
- About 10 t CO2e a year

## What Senseible does here

Senseible reads the energy invoices behind the making stage into a fingerprinted Scope 1 and 2 record, and keeps material invoices on the Scope 3 trail. Material factors come from your supplier or a named database and are labelled with their source, so the product figure can be traced line by line.
