# How are emissions from a tunnel boring machine counted?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/tunnel-boring-machine-electricity-emissions

A tunnel boring machine runs on electricity, often several megawatts, so its emissions are metered kWh times 0.710 kg CO2 per kWh. Add ventilation, muck conveyors and site gensets. Segment linings of concrete and steel are usually the larger Scope 3 share.

## Count

- Scope 2: TBM, ventilation, conveyors, site power.
- Scope 1: gensets, loaders, trucks you run.
- Scope 3: concrete segments, rebar, grout.

## Per metre

Divide by metres bored for a figure you can compare across drives.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible reads bills, fuel invoices and production records into dated, fingerprinted records, so the figure you send a buyer can be traced to its documents.
