# How do I check a low carbon aluminium claim from a UAE smelter?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/uae-low-carbon-aluminium-claim-how-to-check

Ask what the number covers, how the low carbon power is proven and who checked it. A figure per tonne is only comparable if it states the boundary, the power source with certificates retired for that metal, and whether it is mass balance or physically separate production.

## Questions to ask

- Boundary: smelting only, or cradle to gate including alumina and anodes?
- Power: which certificates or contracts, retired in whose name, for which period?
- Allocation: does the claim move renewable power onto one product line by mass balance?
- Assurance: who verified it, and against which standard?

## CBAM is a separate number

Aluminium is charged on direct emissions only, so renewable power does not change the CBAM figure. A low carbon claim helps your Scope 3, not your importer's certificates.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible reads your electricity bills and fuel invoices into Scope 1 and 2 records with the factor and source on each line, the site data a buyer questionnaire starts from. It does not produce verified product footprints or fill a buyer's portal for you.
