# Does India's CCTS count as a qualifying carbon price under the UK CBAM?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/uk-cbam-india-ccts-qualifying-carbon-price

Yes, provisionally. HMRC's list of qualifying carbon pricing schemes, based on information as of 19 June 2026, includes India's Carbon Credit Trading Scheme. A UK importer can then claim relief for the carbon price your goods actually bore, backed by a carbon pricing verification form from your plant.

## What the listing means

The UK CBAM charge can be reduced by carbon price relief where the embodied emissions were subject to a qualifying scheme. India's CCTS is one of 16 schemes on HMRC's provisional list, alongside the EU ETS, China's national ETS, Japan GX-ETS and Korea ETS.

## What the listing does not mean

- It does not cancel the UK CBAM for Indian goods.
- Relief depends on the effective carbon price the goods were actually subject to. Free allowances and rebates do not count.
- The importer must hold a completed carbon pricing verification form from the installation.
- The list is provisional and HMRC says a scheme that stops meeting the criteria drops off.

## What your plant would supply

- Total relevant emissions for one of the two calendar years before import.
- How those emissions split across scheme elements, such as certificates surrendered.
- Any compensation or rebates received for those emissions.
- All verified by an accredited verifier independent of your plant, the importer and the Indian scheme administrator.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible builds your plant emissions from fuel and power records and keeps your CCTS-related figures with the documents behind them. It does not complete carbon pricing verification forms. We build the figure from your records and check every figure in-house; for the UK it must then be verified by a verifier accredited for UK CBAM. Have your own verifier? Send it to them.
