# What is the UK CBAM default value for steel forgings?

Canonical: https://senseible.earth/answers/uk-cbam-steel-forgings-default

Under HMRC's UK CBAM defaults, closed-die forged articles of iron or steel not covered elsewhere (7326 90 94) carry 3.158 tCO2e per tonne and open-die forgings (7326 90 92) 3.246. Other steel articles under 7326 90 98 are 3.439. Forging is inside the UK CBAM boundary.

## Defaults for forgings

- 7326 90 94: closed-die forged articles, not elsewhere specified: 3.158 tCO2e per tonne.
- 7326 90 92: open-die forged articles, not elsewhere specified: 3.246.
- 7326 90 98: other articles of iron or steel: 3.439.

## Check the code first

Many forgings are parts of machines or vehicles and are classified in later chapters, such as 84 or 87, which are not in the UK CBAM list. Only forgings that stay in 7326 or other listed headings are covered.

## What goes into your figure

- Billet or bar bought in, as a precursor.
- Fuel for heating: furnace oil, LPG or gas. Induction heating power is not counted until at least 2029.
- Annealing and other heat treatment fuel.
- Machining runs on electricity, which is not counted, and finishing is outside the boundary.

## What Senseible does here

Senseible reads billet purchases and furnace oil, LPG or gas invoices against forged tonnes, so your own figure can be set against 3.158 or 3.246. We build the figure from your records and check every figure in-house; for the UK it must then be verified by a verifier accredited for UK CBAM. Have your own verifier? Send it to them.
